Calculator

Every 8 hours: which times, and how many tablets?

Type the time of the first dose. The calculator spaces the rest evenly across the day and counts the tablets for the course. It does the arithmetic and nothing else.

Your times
  • 7:00 AM
  • 3:00 PM
  • 11:00 PM

3 doses a day · 21 doses in all · 21 tablets in all

Nothing you type leaves this page or is saved.

“Every 8 hours” sometimes means exactly 8 hours apart, and sometimes three times a day with meals. The leaflet or your pharmacist knows which one your prescription means.

How the times are worked out

A day has 24 hours, so every 8 hours is 3 doses a day, every 12 hours is 2 and every 6 hours is 4. The calculator adds the gap to your first time until it comes back round. Pick a first time you can keep: 7 AM gives 7 AM, 3 PM and 11 PM.

Then let your phone keep the times

A calculator can’t ring. Pillbean rings at each of those times, rings again if you ignore it, and counts the tablets down, half tablets included.

Questions

What if I miss a dose?

That depends on the medicine. The leaflet says what to do, or ask your pharmacist. This page doesn’t advise on doses.

Can I move all the times by an hour?

The calculator will move the whole day. Whether your medicine allows it is your doctor’s or pharmacist’s call.
